Wellman Cars Recognised in Parliament

Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley has highlighted at Westminster the initiative by Wellman Cars to support the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

Ms Crawley lodged an Early Day Motion in Parliament today highlighting the taxi operator’s generosity and invited other MPs to thank the company for their efforts.

Wellman Cars announced last week that from today (January 11th) elderly and vulnerable passengers could travel free of charge to and from vaccination hubs in one of their taxis.

The scheme will cover both the driver and the passenger’s costs and help support people in making a safe journey to and from their appointments.

Ms Crawley said: “Despite challenging financial circumstances, business owners and their staff across my constituency have gone the extra mile to support vulnerable people through the pandemic.

“The latest example is Wellman Cars’ new scheme to support the local vaccination programme.

“Offering free transport to the vulnerable and elderly will ensure more people receive the vaccine and are therefore unlikely to get or pass on the virus.

“With the new strain posing a real threat to our ability to keep the virus under control, it’s clear that population immunity through mass vaccination is the only real way we can return to some semblance of normality.

“That is why schemes like this are so important and why, when offered, I would encourage all of my constituents to receive the vaccine.”
