Care homes to close

Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley has expressed disappointment after plans to close McClymont House in Lanark (pictured) and Dewar House in Hamilton were approved.

At a meeting of South Lanarkshire Integration Joint Board (IJB) on Tuesday 26th March, the decision was taken to close the only council care homes in both Hamilton and Clydesdale.

Whilst the implications from yesterday’s decisions are considered, the immediate reaction is one of dismay over the fact that an emphatic response given by the public in the consultation has been ran roughshod over by this outcome.

Commenting, Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley said:

“I am extremely disappointed that these closures have been approved. The consultation results were clear, both McClymont House and Dewar House are valued services which should be retained.

“Neither Hamilton nor Clydesdale should be left without council-run residential care.

“Many of the families involved have contacted my office worried for what these closures will mean for their relatives.

“This will be a difficult time for them and for the staff of both facilities. I will continue to help those involved in any way I can.”
