Angela nominates Borders Biscuits as Responsible Business Champion

Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley has today nominated Lanark based Borders Biscuits to be the Parliamentary Responsible Business Champion.

The All-Party Parliamentary Corporate Responsibility Group presents an annual award for responsible business practice to recognise companies which go beyond mere compliance with legal and contractual obligations to support their local communities.

The award is distinctive because companies must be nominated by their constituency MP, for impact in his/her constituency, and the award will be judged by Parliamentarians.

Once the Group has endorsed, the companies will go forward for consideration by an APCRG judging panel who will select the 2016 National Responsible Business Champion. This company will be presented with an award, alongside its constituency MP, at a special reception held by the APCRG this summer.

Commenting, Angela said:

“Borders Biscuits are an institution in my constituency. Their brand is global, yet their work roots them in our community.

“From paying their staff the living wage to giving 10% of their profits to local organisations, Borders Biscuits are an outstanding example of how large companies should act.

“The company came from humble beginnings, and it’s extremely welcome that they have not forgotten their town.

“I can think of no better example of a responsible business and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to nominate them as the Parliamentary Business Champion.
