Angela calls for protection for EU Nationals

Angela Crawley MP for Lanark and Hamilton East has challenged Prime Minister Theresa May over her refusal to guarantee the rights of EU nationals in the UK.

Speaking in the SNP opposition day debate on protecting the rights of EU Nationals, the local MP called for greater leadership by the UK Government and urged them to provide certainty to the people that have chosen to live and work here.

The motion was defeated 293 votes to 250.

Commenting, Angela said:

“This situation requires leadership and a Prime Minister who will advocate in the best interests of every single individual in this country, EU national and otherwise.

“Scotland has taken a very different approach to the tactics of exclusion used by the UK Government.

“The First Minister Nicola Sturgeon spoke at conference last week about inclusion and the UK Government should learn lessons from her message.

“I echo Nicola Sturgeon’s position, and urge Theresa May to drop the divisive language and policies that vilify EU nationals living, working and studying in the UK.”
