Almost 7,000 WASPI women in constituency

Almost 7,000 women in Lanark and Hamilton East have been affected by changes to the state pension age.

New figures from the House of Commons Library highlighted how many 1950s born women saw their state pension age change following the introduction of various legislation since the 1990s.

An estimated 6,900 women have been impacted in Lanark and Hamilton East, with over 342,000 impacted across Scotland.

The figures come following the publication of the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman report into maladministration at the DWP which meant these women were unable to properly plan for their retirement.

Compensation was recommended by the PHSO report which was laid before Parliament.

Commenting, Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley said:

“I will continue to campaign alongside the WASPI women in Lanark and Hamilton East to ensure that they will be fully compensated.

“The report from the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman could not have been clearer and I have written to the UK Government urging them to act on the recommendations.”
