Over 400 responses on town centre consultation

Angela Crawley MP and Christina McKelvie MSP have today announced that their consultation to save the Hamilton town centre has exceeded 400 respondents in just two weeks.

The consultation was set up to listen to concerned Hamilton residents, business owners and town centre shoppers.

Both parliamentarians have also held a series of meetings to discuss possible solutions with key stakeholders, and are in the process of organising a summit event to bring together concerned businesses and individuals.

The consultation will end on 1 July 2016 and can be found here: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/GKW79XR

After the consultation is complete, a report will be prepared making recommendations for change.

Commenting, both Angela and Christina said:

“The regeneration of our town centre needs clear leadership – it needs an innovative plan that sets us apart.

“To create an area where business can thrive, we need to remove the barriers in the way of progress.

“If we look elsewhere, we can see what has worked and what has not. Time and time again we have seen that parking charges take more money from the local economy than they bring in.

“It is the epitome of short term gain for long term loss, and Hamilton is evidence of that.

“There is clearly a huge depth of feeling around the regeneration of our town, and we are delighted with the uptake in our consultation to date.

“We know that this is not an easy problem to fix, but it is only through our community coming together that this will be a success.”
