Meeting with Santander

Angela Crawley MP and Christina McKelvie MSP held a meeting on Friday (27th Nov) with Santander to discuss their decision to leave their Hamilton town centre premises.

After a breakdown in negotiations with their landlord, the bank announced their plan to leave their Quarry Street site by the 17th of December this year.

Following the meeting, the local MP and MSP committed to engage with the landlord and council officers to try and reach a resolution that will ensure bank remains in the town centre.

Commenting, Angela said:

“I was shocked to learn that Santander are planning to vacate their popular Hamilton site.

“This move represents a further blow to local banking at a time when many vulnerable people are already isolated.

“Christina and I will work with the council to try and reach a resolution with the landlord that will save Hamilton’s Santander.”

Following on, Christina said:

“We will be working with the council, Santander and the landlord to keep the bank on our high street.

“Local banking services are crucial for many of the most vulnerable people in our communities who rely on a face-to-face banking service.

“I am dedicated to doing everything I can to help resolve this issue to allow Santander to stay.”
