Lanark BID Success

Angela Crawley MP has this week welcomed the decision by Lanark’s business community to support the establishment of a business improvement district.

As a result of the vote, more than £1 million will be invested in Lanark over the next five years.

Discover Lanark plan to use the levies paid plus grants and other funding streams to support a number of projects, including improving how Lanark is presented to locals and visitors, putting successful businesses at the heart of Lanark’s community and working together to capitalise on the level of tourism the town enjoys.

The result of the ballot was declared on Friday the 1st of March, with 127 businesses voting in favour of establishing the BID – 60% of the turnout.

Commenting, Angela said:

“The establishment of a Business Improvement District in Lanark is fantastic news for the town.

“Not only will it give businesses a forum to work together, but will release a significant amount of investment over the next five years.

“Having worked closely with the Hamilton BID since I was a Councillor, I understand the challenges and opportunities that come with a project on this scale.

“Regenerating a town is a difficult task, but with determination, organisation and funding I am confident of real progress for Lanark.

“I would like to congratulate the Discover Lanark campaign team on their election victory and look forward to working with them and their new board at the BID.”
