Hamilton Covid-19 warriors receive recognition in Parliament

The community organisation set up in Hamilton to support vulnerable people through the Covid-19 pandemic has received recognition at Westminster.

Hamilton’s MP Angela Crawley submitted an Early Day Motion thanking them for their efforts to provide food, medication and other vital supplies to those that either can’t leave their home or find themselves relying on emergency aid.

The Hamilton Covid-19 Warriors were established by Janine Caine and with the support of South Lanarkshire Council have grown to over 2,000 members.

As well as providing vital support, the group have also been donating Easter Eggs to children and helping with dog walking and transport of dogs to day care.

Commenting, Angela said:

“The community spirit shown across my constituency has been outstanding.

“In a difficult time, people from Clydesdale to Bothwell have been coming together to support those that need it most.

“The pandemic has been challenging for so many people and with restrictions likely to be in place for a number of months, we need these organisations more than ever.

“I pay particular tribute to Janine and the Hamilton Covid-19 warriors that only formed in March of this year and have already made such a large impact.

“They show what can be done when a community comes together, develops a plan and puts it into action.

“Well done to everyone out doing their bit to help and keep up the good work.”
