Big Plastic Count

Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley is calling on her constituents to take part in Greenpeace’s Big Plastic Count.

Taking place between May 16 and 22, the Big Plastic Count aims to gather more information and evidence about how much plastic we use and how much of it is thrown away.

Throughout the week, people will count how much plastic waste they create and take a note of the different types of plastic they throw out or recycle.

At the end, the results will be tallied together to create a comprehensive overview of the UK’s plastic usage.

Greenpeace hope to use that evidence to put pressure on the UK Government to commit to targeting 2025 for halving the amount of single-use plastic that we use.

MP Angela Crawley has signed up to take part in the event alongside more than 81,000 people across the UK.

Commenting, Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley said:

“The Big Plastic Count is a fantastic opportunity for us to better understand how we consume single-use plastics.

“Everyone who takes part will be better able to see just how much plastic we throw away everyday and, as a result, our individual impacts on the environment will be much clearer.

“At a national level, it will allow us to develop and pursue policies which will allow consumers the choice to use less plastic and reduce the amount that is thrown in the bin.

“I have signed up for this campaign and I would urge businesses, schools and individuals to get behind it.”
