Angela re-elected.

Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley has thanked her constituents for re-electing her in last week’s General Election.

Angela now takes her place as one of the 35 SNP MPs at Westminster.

The SNP won the election in Scotland, winning more votes and seats than all of the other parties combined. However, Angela said she was “disappointed to lose some fantastic colleagues, including Hamilton West MP Margaret Ferrier.”

The UK wide result has led to a proposed “Coalition of Chaos” with the Democratic Unionist Party propping up a minority Conservative Government.

Commenting on her result, Angela said:

“I am delighted to have been returned as the Member of Parliament for Lanark and Hamilton East.

“I have worked hard over the last few years to retain the trust of my constituents and I’m delighted to have the honour of continuing to serve my home constituency.

“It is also worth remembering that the Tories called this unnecessary election to bring stability to the country – instead they have left us in a position of weakness as we enter the most complex negotiations in my lifetime.

“Make no mistake, this is a Government on shaky ground with a weak mandate. They must take on board the election result and stop their unnecessary push for a hard Brexit and halt their damaging obsession with austerity.

“I will continue to work hard on my constituent’s behalf and promise to stand up for them at every opportunity.”
