Angela opens essay competition for local 16-18 year olds

Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley has today opened an essay competition, aimed at school pupils from across her constituency. The initiative is in its second year after hosting two pupils for four weeks earlier this summer.

The competition is open to all Secondary Schools that take in students who live in the Lanark and Hamilton East Constituency and two winners will be offered a 4 week paid internship in Angela’s Constituency Office.

Pupils are asked to write a 1,000 to 1,300 word essay.

Applications close on the 27th of January 2017, and entrants are asked to email their essays to angela.crawley.mp@parliament.uk or send them by post to 12 Campbell Street, Hamilton, ML3 6AS.

Commenting, Angela said:

“When I was first elected I was determined to make my office as accessible as possible. But as well as that, I also thought my election would be a great opportunity to give useful experience to those looking to kick start their careers.

“Earlier this year my office took on two fantastic interns. Both Nathan and Erin brought energy, fresh ideas and knowledge. They also left with the experience of working in a busy environment and an updated CV.

“I started my political career as an intern in a constituency office, so I know how useful an opportunity it can be.

“Not only will it give the winners gainful experience and a living wage job over the summer holidays, it will allow pupils to engage with interesting and topical subjects.

“I hope that the competition will be of interest to all of the students across my constituency and I’m looking forward to reading well informed essays from our bright pupils.
