Lanark and Hamilton East MP, Angela Crawley, today nominated Jholpai restaurant in Lanark to enter the annual Tiffin Cup.
The Tiffin Cup is a prestigious competition in which members of Parliament are asked to nominate the most popular South Asian restaurant from across their constituency.
Angela said:
“Last year I nominated Mushtaq’s in Hamilton for the award and was delighted that the restaurant won the Scottish heat. This year we are going for a clean sweep and I think Jholpai can bring home the award.
Once the nominations are made, ten entrants from across the country are short-listed and invited to a special cook-in at the renowned Bellamy’s Restaurant in Mayfair, London – with the Speaker of the House, John Bercow, presenting the prize.
Angela added:
“The Tiffin Cup is a fantastic initiative, not only does it give the restaurants the credit they deserve, but it also makes a substantial contribution to charity. This year all of the proceeds from the competition will be donated to WaterAid – the charity aiming to give clean water to those in need.
“Having looked through the previous winners, no restaurant from Scotland has ever lifted the trophy – Lanark and Hamilton East has many fantastic restaurants that would definitely be deserving of such recognition”
“I think this year has the potential to be different – it’s time Scotland was represented in the Tiffin Cup”
Manager of the restaurant, Jahed said:
“I’m delighted that Angela has nominated Jholpai Indian Fusion for the Tiffin Cup.
“It’s great to receive recognition from our new MP for the hard-work we do – both in preparing top-quality South-Asian food for our customers and in employing staff from the local area.
“It’s a big challenge, but I’m looking forward to competing and I’m hopeful we can be Scotland’s first winner.
