Angela expresses disappointment over Clydesdale Bank closure

Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley has today expressed her disappointment at Clydesdale Bank’s decision to close their Lanark branch.

The local MP has written to Clydesdale Bank seeking assurances that steps will be taken to limit the impact customers and businesses that use the bank, and also that no staff will be out of a job as a result of the change.

The closure is due to take place on the 30th of August this year.

Commenting, Angela said:

“Customers are increasingly being drawn to faceless banking, be it through mobile apps, internet banking or over the phone.

“Some people may find it more convenient, but a significant number of my constituents prefer to do banking in person, including a number of my people who have done their banking face-to-face for decades.

“The bank on the high street suits those who may not be fit to travel long distances, or those who are less likely to engage with digital banking, so to have the branch closed will be a real disappointment to them.

“I have written to the Clydesdale Bank seeking assurances that safeguards will be put in place to limit the damage of their closure – be it to customers, businesses or staff.

“We often see adverts from banks claiming to put their customers at the heart of their business. Closing branches up and down the country seems to fly in the face of this.
