Angela backs Foodbank Plea for donations

Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley has today backed the Hamilton District Foodbank’s urgent plea for donations.

As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, the Foodbank has seen a drop in donations combined with an increased demand for their service.

The local foodbank has been operational for several years and has provided thousands of emergency food parcels to vulnerable people across Hamilton.

However, as a result of falling donations, the foodbank’s future is under threat.

In an online post, the Foodbank manager Isobel Graham said:

“We have severe food shortages but don’t want to close, so we appeal to local supermarket managers, independent food suppliers, local food shops, the public please, please, help us.”

Commenting on the news, Angela said:

“The Hamilton District Foodbank is a lifeline to many of my vulnerable constituents, particularly at this unsettling time.

“The Foodbank has never been more important as people lose jobs and income as a result of covid-19.

“I understand that people are concerned about shortages and stopping donations as a result, but we have strong supply chains in place and plenty of food to go around.

“So please continue to support our foodbank volunteers and protect this vital service.” sed1 lsdloc
